About Orange News Now

Derek Maitland, Editor of Orange News Now, has had more than 40 years’ experience in Australian and international television and newspaper journalism, but regards this latest assignment as one of the most exciting challenges of his career.

“We’re stepping bravely into an entirely new editorial field for Orange and the Central West,” he says, “going online for a start and then focusing daily, with daily uploads, on the city and region’s big-issue topics and controversies that require more than just a few paragraphs of information.

“In fact, we’re presenting a daily print version of TV current affairs – something like ’60 Minutes’ or ‘Four Corners’, attacking an issue from all angles and opinion and actually suggesting, in some cases, how it can be dealt with for the betterment and progress of the community.

“Unlike most online news services we’re not just repeating word-for-word the articles in our newspaper. Our stories and features are original, putting us right at the forefront of this new web-based trend in Australian and global journalism.”
Derek Maitland says his articles are aimed at providing intelligent analysis for an informed audience.

“We’re talking to people who share our concern for the commercial and cultural health and progress of Orange, now and in the future, and we’re calling for informed feedback and participation.

“We feel that Orange News Now could well provide the forum for a vital ongoing debate that will be of immense value to the city and its people.”
